How to Sleep In Safely
Sleeping late can compromise your glucose control unless you take the proper steps to manage it. You can sleep late on weekends and still avoid waking up with high blood glucose. If you want to sleep until 10:00 or 11:00 in the morning, set your alarm for 6:00 a.m., go to the bathroom and check your blood glucose.
If your blood glucose is high, take a couple of units of rapid-acting insulin so that it slowly declines while you sleep. If your blood glucose is low, drink some juice or milk. If it's normal, take one or two units of regular insulin and go back to sleep.
